A Statement from Hung Wei
I came from Taiwan in 1979 to study at UCLA, and earned a Masters degree in Teaching English as a Second Language.
I've resided in our district since 1981, first in West San Jose, then in Cupertino. As my children attended the local schools, I volunteered in school activities, took leadership roles as a PTA president, School Site Council member, event chair and advisor to Verdadera (a Monta Vista student-run newsletter).
I believe that school board trustees are politicians of the heart - a heart for teenagers. I believe it is important to exercise sound financial management to ensure that we offer excellent academic classes and programs that support Art, Music, Athletics, and Leadership training.
Teacher professional development is a top priority because teaching happens in the classroom, and it is critical that our teachers receive updated and continuous training. The Guidance Program is another area of focus so that students receive guidance in course selection, college information, and emotional support.
I also believe that a school board member needs to be a bridge in communication between parents and school district to ensure that we meet the current needs of students.
I am committed to having a heart for teenagers and would appreciate your support.
